National SCADA Conference session – “Water vs Electricity SCADA – Experiences from managing SCADA in water and in electricity”

Sean Murdoch is an engineering and technology manager with an operational system and heavy industry background. He has over 28 years of experience working in operational technology and information systems in water, mining, metals, and energy organisations either as an employee, a vendor or a consultant.

Sean has held engineering and management roles within owner, contractor and consulting organisations including BHP, Yokogawa, Matrikon, Honeywell, Accenture, Queensland Urban Utilities, AECOM, Jacobs and now Energy Queensland.

Sean’s experience has included operational systems and their interactions with business systems across a range of industries. Sean has consulted and/or delivered projects and programs with large multi-national organisations in such areas as Cyber Security, Control Systems (PLC/DCS), SCADA, Asset Management, Condition-Based Monitoring, Asset Integrity, Production Reporting, Alarm Management, Logistics and Scheduling, and Enterprise Historians.

From 2013 to 2017, Sean managed the fleet of control systems, SCADA and associated telecommunications infrastructure for Queensland Urban Utilities. This included setting the SCADA strategy and the operations and automation digital strategy for the organisation.

Sean currently works for Energy Queensland managing the state-wide team delivering SCADA engineering support and SCADA and telecommunications design for project works associated with electricity networks across the state.

Sean has a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering with first class honours, and Masters degrees with Distinction in Project Management and Business Administration. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, a Registered Professional Engineer of Professionals Australia, and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland.
